On May 29, at 4:00 p.m., the conference “Towards a renewal of the Social Sciences? On Bernard Lahire's book The Fundamental Structures of Human Societies” was held, bringing together researchers and students for a critical reflection on the foundations and contemporary challenges of the Social Sciences.
The session featured presentations by two leading figures in Portuguese sociology: António Firmino da Costa, professor emeritus at Iscte and researcher at CIES-Iscte, and João Teixeira Lopes, professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto and scientific coordinator of ISUP. The speakers addressed Bernard Lahire's innovative theoretical proposals, promoting a broad debate on social structures and possible paths for the epistemological renewal of the discipline.
Organized in the context of Iscte's PhD in Sociology, the event was free to attend and stood out as a space for interdisciplinary dialogue and critical reflection, bringing together participants from various areas of the social sciences.
